Colton Straus, LSW

Therapist Colton in Avondale & Logan Square

I work with young adults navigating the transitions that tend to arrive all at once: leaving school, starting a career, redefining family relationships, building or ending romantic partnerships, and figuring out what a healthy daily life actually looks like. A lot of the people I feel disconnected from their own life even if it looks good on paper, and my job is to help make sense of that gap.

I'm interested in the patterns that show up again and again in a person's relationships and choices, and in understanding where those patterns came from so they stop running on autopilot. I also want clients to leave sessions with something concrete: tools for handling hard thoughts and feelings while still moving toward the life they actually want, whether that shows up in a relationship, a health habit, or a hard decision about what comes next.

In the room, I try to practice what I ask of clients: honesty over comfort, real dialogue instead of a one-way lecture, and compassion that doesn't let anyone off the hook. I care about understanding a person on their own terms before I try to help them change anything. I'd call my style gentle rigor, steady and warm, but not afraid to name what's actually going on.

If you're in a period of transition and want a space to slow down, get honest, and figure out what's next, I'd be glad to talk.
